What is Parkinson‘s Law
Parkinson’s Law
Statement: Work expends to fill the
time assigned for its completion.
The
term was first coined by Cyril Northolt Parkinson in a humorous easy he wrote
for “The Economist” in 1955. He shares the story of a woman whose only task in
a day is to send a postcard – a task which would take a busy person
approximately three minutes. But woman spends an hour finding a card, another
half hour looking for her glasses, 90
minutes writing the card, 20 minutes deciding whether or not to take an umbrella
along on her walk to the mailbox and on until her day is filled.
Expansion of work to fill the time
available:
Sidewise
from the work itself become increasingly complex, procrastination is another
key player in Parkinson’s Law.
Let’s
suppose that we have a set amount of time to do something often inspires us to
leave work to the last vey minute and our delay in getting started mean the
time required for that task expends.
Why does it happen?
It
happen if you don’t follow your team management and your guider and if you
don’t follow the you your project deadline that reasons it will happen. Second
thing if you don’t pre planned about any your project and on the spot you try
to complete the project in this way your task in not a complete and all wok
will be wrong.
Vision statement:
Suppose
you are asked to alphabetize a huge stack of files but you don’t know about the
files and about the importance and why you are asked to perform this task. To
start any group project you are supposed to made obvious to your group fellows
·
Importance of project:
·
Why this project makes sense for your
group fellow and your organization
Roles and responsibilities:
For
any project especially with a lot of different teams workers and team in the
mix its crucial that you clearly outline where everybody fits.
We use the DACI framework:
D drives Driver:
The
person responsible for corralling stakeholders this person getting a decision
and collecting all necessary information and the decision made by the agreed
date.
C drives contributors:
They
have knowledge or expertise that may affect the decision.
I drives Informed:
They
are informed of a final decision.
Using
this framework to show team members how their role fits in helps to prevent
buck passing they are forced to take more accountability for their assigned
responsibilities and contributions.
How we overcome the Parkinson’s
Law.
The best thing is to start early by planning a successful project. First of all plan your entire project and then implement all the things before the time in this way we save the time and before the time we complete our task.
Set your timeline:
It is interesting
that the timeline is the last step of the project think about building of a
house you would not reach a builder and say I need a house that in this size
and looks exactly like this example and I need it by this date next task will
be this you communicate with your builder about your expectations and work you
require from your builder and then set the deadline.
